Festive February, Marvelous March

Festive February, Marvelous March

What an eventful couple of months for Compaigni V'ni Dansi and the Louis Riel Métis Dancers! We joined an inspiring and amazing selection of Aboriginal dancers and musicians for 4 nights of performances at the 20th Anniversary Talking Stick Festival, held at the Roundhouse Community Centre in the heart of Yaletown.

One of our favourite highlights was the sold-out Stompin'! - an evening of high energy traditional Métis dance, with JJ Lavallée and Canada's Got Talent winners, Saqkeeng's Finest. The Cree Creation Story, an excerpt from Compaigni V’ni Dansi’s newest show, Cooking It Up Métis, was featured at Convergence, two incredible days of exploration of contemporary Aboriginal Dance that included Shifting Tides – a fascinating dialogue on the Traditional/Contemporary conundrum, in which Yvonne was invited to participate.

The Dancers of Damelahamid also welcomed us to UBC's Museum of Anthropology to take part in their Coastal First Nations Dance Festival.

The audience participated in some traditional Métis jigging at the Vancouver International Dance Festival following our performance of Daughters of the Country. The Roundhouse Plaza's newly restored turntable was the ideal outdoor dance floor, with JJ Lavallée's fiddle and our colourful costumes attracting new jigging partners of many cultures.
