Senior Artists Drop In to See What Yvonne Was Up to Last Week at the Dance Centre

Davida Monk, Julia Carr, Eloi Homier, Creation Phase - Eagle Dancer

Senior artists Helen Walkley and Paras Terezakis, and dancer Hilary Maxwell, were among those present for Yvonne Chartrand's showing at the Dance Centre last Friday. The showing was the culmination of five days of a creative process with outside eye Davida Monk.

Here is part of what Yvonne, Davida and Paras said after the showing:

Davida Monk:  How did the showing go for you Yvonne?

Yvonne Chartrand: I thought it went really well.  I got some ideas of how to move forward with the piece, how to go deeper into the work, and how important it is to address movement qualities with the dancers.  For example, Helen's observations about the dancers' feet and the relationship of their feet to their centres, and their use of breath.

Davida Monk: Do you think these sketched ideas communicated?

Yvonne Chartrand: Yes, I got confirmation from the feedback that people were intrigued by what they saw. And it was great because they connected with different points in the choreography that meant a lot to me.

Paras Terezakis: Yes, I thought the timing of certain images gave a real depth to the feelings. Things did not read as an effect, but as something real.
