Winner of the Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award goes to...

Two of Vancouver based Artists have won the Canada Council Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award. One of them is none other than Yvonne Chartrand of Compaigni V'ni Dansi.

Choreographer and dancer Yvonne Chartrand and composer Paul Steenhuisen have each been selected for the $15,000 award, alongside Toronto’s theatre producer Naomi Campbell; Montreal’s visual artist Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo and media artist Diane Morin; Montreal and Beirut-based interdisciplinary artist and performer Nadine Sures; and Winnipeg-based writer Duncan Thornton.

Chartrand, a contemporary choreographer and dancer, is a national award-winning Métis jigger and artistic director of the contemporary and Métis dance company Compaigni V’ni Dansi. Her most recent solo contemporary work was Stories from St. Laurent, which will be followed up in March 2012 by Cooking it up Métis.
